Society of St Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) is a voluntary organisation whose work primarily involves person-to-person contact with people who have a variety of needs. In addition to direct assistance, we try to promote self-sufficiency, enabling people to help themselves- getting them to budget weekly plays a significant role in this.  Any assistance offered by the Society is given in a non-judgemental spirit of compassion, based on the need of the individual or family.
Most of our annual expenditure goes on assistance -food, rent, fuel and education etc. We place great emphasis on education as a means of access to employment and for personal development.

We have at present 16 members and we visit in pairs each Tuesday evening about 20 to 25 families on a regular basis out of a total about 150 that we visit as needed. Our workload is increasing in the current economic climate and new members are needed to cope.

An important part of our funding comes from the monthly church door collection and the special annual indoor collection in December.
