Baptism is the sacrament of entry into God's family. It is the first Sacrament and truly worthy of celebrating with our new sister or brother. It is a family and parish celebration.
In recent times we have had adults baptised, confirmed and received into the Church, but mainly it is infants who are Baptised. As our Parish continues to grow, in the last year we celebrated Baptism with over 150 infants and their families Times
Baptisms are celebrated every Saturday at 12 noon
Preparation
To enquire about Baptism please contact the Parish office on 289 34 92. Our secretary will be able to discuss possible dates with you that are available.
ONE MONTH'S NOTICE IS REQUIRED. A copy of your Baby's Birth Certificate is required. If you are living outside our Parish a letter is required from the parish in which you live. This is to make them aware of their new parishioner and to give us permission to baptise them. A member of our Baptismal Team will contact you and make a home visit in the local area. Their purpose is to welcome your baby into the parish and to invite you to our Baptismal meeting. This meeting takes place on the FIRST TUESDAY of every month.
Baptismal Meeting
The meeting is preparation for this important event in your life as a parent. Attendance is required and you are welcome to bring your baby along. The meeting is on the First Tuesday of each month at 8pm in the Parish Community Centre. We begin with a cuppa, registration, a short reflection, an explanation of the Sacrament of Baptism and what happens in the ceremony. The final reflection is given by a member of the Baptismal Team on 'Handing on the Faith.' We usually end before 9pm. It is a nice opportunity to meet other young couples who are also preparing for Baptism.
Why the meeting?
We take seriously the promises you take in baptism to hand on your Faith to your child. This meeting, we hope, is an opportunity for the parish community to begin to support you in this role.
If for some unforeseen circumstances you can't make the meeting someone from our Baptismal Team will contact you.
In early January we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord when we invite all who were baptised in the last year back to receive a Blessing at the 12.30pm Sunday Mass and afterwards light refreshments.
Adult Baptism
Any adult wishing to be Baptised or interested in becoming a Catholic should contact one of the Priests of the Parish to find out more information about preparation.
